andrei balan400px Andrei descriptive curriculum

My name is Andrei Balan.
Since 2014 I have collaborated with 'UnterWasser Company' of Rome. My professional theater experience started with them. The aim of the company is to explore the expressive and evocative potential of puppetry and visual theater.
In 2015 and 2016, I was hired by the company like substitute to perform the show 'Out' (Premio Benedetto Ravasio 2016, Eolo Awards Best Puppet Show 2016, Special mention Premio Scenario Infanzia 2015) in Italy, Europe and China.
I played the show for around 80 times.
I witnessed the birth of the show (from the creation of puppets and story) and this experience was enlightening for me.
I felt in love with this show and the world to whom it belongs: the poetical possibilities offered by visual theater.

Until now I have been studying subjects such as directing, directing for puppetry, basic stage and puppet acting, set design, contemporary drama and classic drama, dramaturgy and adaptations, classical puppetry techniques acting and other subcjets related to theatre work process. Also I did my 6 moths placement in Rose Bruford College in London studying European Theatre Arts where I was trained as a deviser and performer.

I find the workshop as a great opportunity and I expect that by participating in workshop I can increase my directing skills, develop myself artistically and find out how to explore even more different techniques of puppetry. Whithin last years I had a chance to be an Assitant Director to Neville Tranter during his work on „Moliere" show and to Janni Younge during her work on "Flight" in Poznan.

Sara e birdman ritagliato 2 Sara descriptive curriculum

Ten years ago, during a workshop with Tapa Sudana (Peter Brook's actor), Tapa has given life to a cloth and told a story, I was amazed that an inanimate object could become alive and could bring a wisdom and a depth that is often missing to human beings.
Since then I got closer and closer to puppetry and to the transformative possibilities of objects.
I'm fascinated by the simple objects that can come to life, by sculpted materials, by manipulation and the ability to put myself at the service of something inanimate and make it live using my voice and my body as a vehicle for something that goes beyond what I am and my limitations and that explores the potential of changing shape, size and the mixing of human/artifact.

Good morning,
I am writing to you at the last moment...
mmmmmmm, sorry about that.

Well, I would really like to take part to this workshop.

As I wrote in my CV my job is street performing as a one-man-band and I am trying to develop a new show with object theatre, puppets and live music.
This point, about the use of music and sounds is really touching me and the connection between puppet/object theatre and music is really where my work is trying to go.

This is the reason why taking part to your workshop would be so much important for me.
